Valentine’s Day

 

 

Australians celebrate Valentine’s Day by giving flowers and chocolates, as well as other presents of all shapes and sizes to those they love or to those they hope to make their sweethearts.

This happens on February 14 each year.

Valentine’s Day is also celebrated in many other countries around the world.

The Different things people do

Many Australians share a special moment with their loved ones.

Some of the things people do to show their love and appreciation for each other on Valentine’s Day are:

  • Buying chocolates
  • Buying red flowers mainly Roses
  • Taking their loved one for a romantic meal
  • Placing a notice in the newspaper
  • Putting a sign up near the home of their sweetheart

Making it an Extra Special Day

There are some who choose Valentine’s Day to propose. Others make February 14 as their wedding day.

Valentine’s Day related products are displayed in many shops and the few days   before tend to be quiet busy, with people buying cards to give to those they love. For some the one they hope to make their special partner..

The Origins of Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is celebrated in many countries. The origins of Valentine’s Day are not clear. Valentine’s Day has become popular in Australia over the years, particularly during the late 20th century, and it continues to be celebrated among many Australians today.

Symbols of Valentine’s Day

The most common symbols of Valentine’s Day is the heart shape, it is used to decorate many things, including cards, wrapping paper and gift boxes. Other symbols associated with Valentine’s Day are pairs white doves, teddy bears, Cupid with his arrows and couples kissing or embracing.

The red roses are the most popular flower to show someone you love them  since they were first associated with Valentine’s Day.

    According to Rabbi Brasch, the celebration of Valentine’s Day goes back thousands of years, to ancient Rome. Falling during the season of spring, it was considered a time particularly propitious for love. It was believed that birds started to mate on this day and so it would be only natural for humans to pair off as well.
